Given that we are not a user, we shall keep studying. As a manufacturer of medical devices, we ourselves, never use our products in medical practice. How do we get to know needs and requests of doctors and medical staff? Keep studying is an answer. All new members at Inami, should learn and understand the eye in its structure and function, regardless their section or duty. Every member has been trained to draw organization of the eye without any reference.Especially, employees who deal our products, have to attend training courses phase by phase. Sometimes he or she gave a lecture to others on a specific subject.A training course at wet-lab, where pigs’ eyes (pigs are to be pork) are used, is one of the options. At the beginning, attendees hesitate to do experiments on pigs, whose eye is very similar with that of human’s in size and structure. During this course, attendees learn techniques and deepen knowledge of our products that cannot be done in the classroom lecture. By so doing, we can understand and share doctors’ needs. Thanking pigs for contribution, we keep studying.

We are proud of being professional to develop new items from a piece of idea. Hints to develop new and better instruments can always be found in doctors’ inspirations and voices of medical staff if you have professional craftsman’s sprit. Otherwise, nothing can be produced from them.We know our approach how to implement these ideas. This can be proved by the fact that we receive more than 300 custom orders a year with user’s satisfaction.A removal tool for blockage in Meibomian glands, which secrete oil within the eyelid is one of the examples. The glands become blocked due to infectious diseases. If you do not treat it properly, you may have dry eye, because secretions are not enough to the tear film. Picking up of a clogging with a pair of tweezers is a traditional treatment. It takes a long time and the patient has to bear a strong pain.A doctor had an idea to improve the treatment, lesser pain and easier. With Inami’s collaboration, new tool was developed. The tool is a combination of two small rollers to squeeze a clogging out of the glands, like color paint out of the tube.

Transfer of expertise and technique to the younger generation is also an important duty of ours. Walking along with a dog like family members in the picture, they are actually Master and Pupil of craftsmen. The master is a first-class craftsman with sophisticated skills and expertise in an area of metal processing, and he has more than 50-year experience in manufacturing of our surgical instruments. Imani has wide range of products and various technologies are applied on them. Craftsmanship is one of the most important elements in production. Tips of surgical instruments for ophthalmology are very small and most sensitive among other medical specialties. To finish our manufacturing process, sometimes filing on tips less than 0.1mm width is required. We are proud of such precise craftsmanship and have to transfer it to the younger generation. Imani has a paid trainee system for younger employees, who desire to learn higher skills, to work under an experienced craftsman for certain years. After their qualification is examined, they are allowed to work in the manufacturing line. It is Inami’s social responsibility not only to produce high-quality devices but also to transfer our or Japanese technologies to the younger people.

Inami was founded in 1924 and experienced World War II. Inami’s history began in 1924 (Taisho Era) by manufacturing “Inami glass eye droppers” adopting syringe to eye drop bottle. It became a hit product of ours and established business base toward future expansion. After the World War II, in the middle of 1940s, the occupation forces from US constructed military bases and hospitals in various places in Japan.US had developed most advanced medical science and technology at that time including those in ophthalmology. US introduced them to Japan through the occupation forces. However, surgical instruments for ophthalmology were not enough to number of patients. As it was urgent, the occupation forces decided to manufacture the instruments in Japan and appointed Inami as a manufacturer knowing our technology and experience in instrument manufacturing that had already been established. This was the first window for us to know most advanced medical technologies at that time. We worked very hard together with Japanese doctors to manufacture the new instruments in accordance with international standards and we supplied them to hospitals successfully. It is one of the stories of ours. There were many and will be more. Our history made our credibility.
